Louie French MP’s message following the Bexley Council elections:
"On Thursday, 7 May, Bexley residents rejected Reform UK's chaos and Labour's failure and returned a Conservative council.
"Twenty-nine Conservative councillors were elected. Labour remains the official opposition with nine councillors, and Reform is the smallest group with just seven councillors.
“It was a decisive result, and means common-sense, community-first service will stay at the heart of our borough's politics. Bexley was Reform's number one target, but residents said no to their angry, divisive and chaotic politics.
"On behalf of your local Conservative councillors, I would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who voted Conservative last Thursday.
"Now, the hard work begins. I've already met with Cllr David Leaf, who will continue as Leader of Bexley Council, to discuss your priorities and the group's plans to deliver for you and your family.
"Your local Conservative councillors promised to protect our green belt, invest more in our roads, community centres, playgrounds and libraries, stop inappropriate HMOs and keep our community clean. They have a plan to deliver, which they'll now implement.
"I'll back their efforts to stop Labour's plans to build on the green belt, fight for fairer funding from the Government to protect local services, and campaign for tougher national rules so the council can stop more HMOs locally.
“The Labour Party is in chaos, Reform UK has fallen into infighting after falling short in London, and the Greens are being exposed. Here in Bexley, we'll be getting on with what matters most: delivering for you."
