Old Bexley and Sidcup MP Louie French opened the borough's first padel courts in Bexley Village on Sunday (17 November 2024), bringing the world's fastest-growing sport to our doorstep.
The four new padel courts are a joint venture of the Bexley Land Tennis Squash and Racketball Club and Bexley Cricket Club, replacing two ageing and poorly used tennis courts. The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) supported the project by granting the club a ‘Quick Access Loan’ to fund the development.
Louie French MP said: "I was thrilled to open Bexley's first padel courts on Sunday, and I'd like to give a big shout-out to Neil Smith and Nick Riley for the project.
"Padel is one of the world's fastest-growing sports, so I'm delighted we now have the facilities locally.
"I wish both clubs every success in this new project, and am pleased to see so many people registering already to use the padel courts."
Padel is a new racket sport played on smaller enclosed courts. It uses bats, serves, and techniques different from tennis. The ball can also be played off walls, adding a new layer to the game.
