As your Member of Parliament, I am organising a public meeting to update you on the potential impact of the Government’s planning reforms on the Green Belt near you.
As you will know, the green fields surrounding Old Bexley and Sidcup have long been protected thanks to the Green Belt designation. This special planning guard has protected our community's local character, safeguarded local farmland and recreational spaces, and prevented damaging urban sprawl over many decades. Our precious remaining countryside is what makes our area a brilliant place to live, raise a family and work.
The Government is proposing substantial changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) to allow housebuilding on parts of the Green Belt. It is also creating a new designation called the ‘Grey Belt’, which several developers are attempting to use to build industrial battery storage facilities on greenfield sites locally. The new housing need formula has also tripled the London Borough of Bexley’s housing target from 685 a year to more than 1,800, and the final target will be set within the Mayor of London’s soon-to-be updated London Plan.
Given the substantial changes coming, I am inviting local residents who want to hear more about the potential impact of the Government’s planning reforms to a public meeting on Wednesday, 25th March, at 7 pm at a venue in Bexley Village. This is an opportunity to hear the proposals that the Government is considering imposing and have your say.
If you would like to attend, please register below, and I will send you the meeting location.
